Battle &
Respect The beach
of Cerberus Island was silent. The only sound penetrating the still coastline
was the gentle lapping of waves onto the shore. Xt sat with his back against a
palm tree looking out across the water. It was so peaceful here. about a hundred
feet out on the water could be seen the hazy distortion where the barrier field
struck the water. The shielding was an adaptation of the shielding that
protected Forbidden Island. This shield could not be turned off. The only way
in or out was by Portal or teleportation. This shield
allowed Xt to let down his guard for the moment and enjoy a respite from the
almost constant warfare that raged across the surface of this planet. This
particular rest was broken by periodic pains and frozen sensations emanating
from the region where Zguyver had implanted the human DNA. It was like a
soreness or toothache. A throbbing pain at times and after a feeling of total
numbness. He was worried about it, but his armor should be able to remove the
alien matter soon enough. He sighed as he closed his eyes and listened to the
peaceful rhythm of the water. His eyes
flew open as he heard and felt the teleportation of something powerful at the
outside of the shield boundary. He gazed up to see Warrior floating there with his
arms crossed. " Let me in Alien. I want a word with you." Warrior
sounded very impatient but Xt saw no reason to cater to his whims. " Why
do you disturb my rest? Leave me be." Warriors eyes flashed red as he
raised his hands to the shield.... And retracted them quickly as the barrier
imparted a significant electrical discharge. Looking down at his hands he saw
that the bio-material was slighty charred. " Nice
trick you got there. This might speed matters up." With that comment
Warrior was surrounded by the white hot flash of a blast field, only to
re-appear within the shield. " Like I said, I want a word with you."
Xt felt the traces of anger stir inside him. " What do you want?"
Warrior landed slowly. " I want to know your intentions. What are you doing
here and why aren't you leaving?" Warrior took a step forward menacingly. Xt was not
impressed. " I have a few questions for you too. Why do you continue to
have relations with the enemies of all your allies? Why do you let anger and
cruelty determine your actions? Why are you as willing to injure your friends
as easily as your enemies?" Without outward sign he began to ready
himself. He guessed that this encounter might not end peacefully. Warrior
grinned under his armor. " So the Alien has a backbone does he? I wonder
what it looks like." Xt snorted.
"As a matter of truth I don't have a backbone anymore so seeing what it
looks like will be very difficult." Warrior growled at this. Xt dropped
into a combat crouch. " If you must know I am waiting here because the
Creators are sure to attack this planet eventually. I intend to make sure that
such an attempt is made futile. I also am hopeful that your computational
technology can unravel what little remains of my memory. Does that answer your
questions?" " Actually
no. I knew as much already and I don't think you are telling all you
could." Warrior's control medal began to glow intensely and Xt began to
feel a distant prodding at his mind. It quickly intensified as Warrior tried to
wrest the information by force. Xt began to shudder as he gathered his will
power, concentrated on closing off the avenues that Warrior was attempting to
access. " You will not succeed. You have never dealt with a mind like mine
before, You will not succeed." Xt said in a strained voice. " When I
have the information I want I will let you go, now Surrender!" Warrior
sounded too confident. As Xt felt his mental barriers crumbling he let them
fall and instead of stopping the memory probe he guided it, into the very heart
of the time during his eon long journey in discorperated form. Warriors
mind was assaulted with memories he had never even imagined. A whole new level
of being and he couldn't handle it just as Xt had hoped. Warrior broke the
mental link with a scream. Clutching his head he waited for his eyes to again
focus. Gasping in pain he began to laugh. " That was a good trick, I don't
know how you did it, but it was an incredible experience. What was that? Was it
actually a memory?" Xt was
panting from the exertion. " Yes, that was a memory. A time when I was
discorperated into single molecules. I didn't think you would be able to take
much sensory input like that." Warrior straightened. " I see you have
some tricks. I won't forget. I now challenge you to a duel. One on One, no distractions."
Xt looked him over. < Who knows exactly how powerful he is. This is a good
chance to find out. > " To the Death?" Warrior shook his head.
" Not this time. Maybe later." Xt stood up again. " Then I
accept. Name the time and place." Warrior floated into the air. " The
surface of the moon, the largest crater, in one hour." He grunted
again before the blast field again surrounded him and he was gone. He descended
into his lair and stalked to the lavapool. Lowering himself in he began
draining as much of the heat energy as he could. It would take alot the pose a
threat to the Warrior guyver. The lava began to cool rapidly as the heat was
draining off faster than it could be replaced. soon it was only slightly
pliable. Xt floated up out of the soft rock and shook off the remainder of the
stone that clung to his arms and legs. It had only
taken fifteen minutes. It was wasteful of the heat he knew, but he wanted time
to scout the battleground before being put to the test in it. He flew back to
the surface and activated a portal to the desired location. Floating in the
weak lunar gravity he slowly rotated memorizing the landscape. He began to
envision possible strategies he might be able to use. As the appointed hour
came he stood waiting for Warriors arrival. He was not disappointed as Warrior
appeared right on schedule. " Are
you ready Alien?" Warrior issued the challenge. " Are you...
Warrior?" Xt gave the name a scornful tone in his thought transmission.
Warriors arm snapped up releasing a pressure cannon shot. Xt blocked it with
his shielding and returned a plasma-sphere only to have it also blocked. "
This is getting us nowhere fast." Xt thought. " Well, I bet mine
holds out longer than yours." With that Warrior began blasting away with
his head laser. Xt returned fire in kind and added his arm lasers to the
barrage. The laser bolts ricocheted off of the two shields charring the
landscape. Xt felt his
shield beginning to falter and saw no weakening in Warriors. He then launched
himself to the side covering the move with a holographic cloak while creating a
holographic illusion of himself diving the opposite direction. Warrior turned
towards the illusion and began leading it with his head laser while powering up
a pressure cannon. Xt meanwhile stealthily approached from behind. As Warrior
released the Pressure cannon he caused the Hologram to stop and take the shot
right in the chest before letting it De-rez. Warrior
gave a howl of victory that cut short as Xt let the cloak drop and slammed a
plasmablade into the back of his shoulder. The blade stopped at the moment of
impact the energy being refracted in a prismatic display of colored light. It
was beginning to overcome the armor and penetrate when Warrior activated his
shielding and flung Xt away. Xt touched down a couple feet away. Warrior
examined his shoulder. " Nice move. A hologram?" Xt readied himself.
" You got it." Warrior laughed as he lunged forward at breathtaking
speeds. Xt activated his shield to take the charge but Warrior stopped in an
instant and thrust his forward blade THROUGH the shield, catching Xt in the
shoulder. " Is
that what you were trying to do?" Xt flung himself backwards off the blade
and dropped into a defensive position. His shoulder had sealed itself and was
still in working order for the moment. He knew though that his one real
weakness was his slow regenerative powers while Warriors quick healing had
already healed the minor wound he had received. He realized
that he couldn't afford anymore wounds. More wounds would take their toll as
the battle progressed. Warrior was waiting for him to make the next move.
Gathering the energy he rushed forward and activating all his blades began
hacking at Warriors shields. Warrior just stood there and laughed. " Stop
trying to hit me and hit me. Xt suddenly retracted his blades and diverted the
energy into the tiny emitters all over his hands. His hands blazed with energy
as he extended into a perfextly balanced uppercut. " Whatever you
want!" Every bit of his mass was behind it. Warrior never saw it coming as
it penetrated through his shielding. He was knocked straight up barely
concious. Xt leaped after him and before he realized what happened executed a
controlled throw by grabbing Warrior's head and flipping him over back towards the
surface. Warrior
landed like a ton of bricks. Slamming a new crater into the surface of the
moon. He shook himself off and looked up just in time to see a massive pulse of
red energy coming right at him. He activated his shielding an instant before it
struck. Even through his shielding he felt the heat and knew his armor was
blistering under the assault. Xt watched
the Plasma-smasher slam into the moon. He waited for the blast to die. Looking
down he saw Warrior guyver standing there, looking a little crisped and shaken,
but not to badly injured. Warrior looked up at Xt. " What a SHOT! Let me
show you how it feels." He immediately opened and fired his megasmasher.
Xt had no time to move. His shielding was weakening under the assault. His armor
was starting to disintegrate. As a last resort he opened a portal and through
himself through it. Warrior
watched Xt's signal fade. " I never meant to kill him." He muttered
to himself. " How touching!" A voice said in his head. "
Xt?" Warrior was stunned again. " Well, at least it's better than
calling me "Alien" all the
time." Xt voice was faint. " Where are you? How did you
survive?" Warrior wanted to see the mess he knew Xt's armor must be in.
" Somewhere on the moon. Hide & seek is an interesting game isn't it?" Warrior
smiled. " Okay, Ready or not here I come!" Warrior began teleporting
around the surface of the moon. Xt watch Warrior leave. He hadn't noticed the
large moonrock that had appeared most suddenly. Xt was a mess. His armor was
blackened, gone in some places and he had lost the use of one of his eyes. He
slowly enhanced the holographic illusion to the point that the only way someone
would find him was by doing a full power scan on that particular rock in the
midst of a couple hundred similar boulders. He rested pouring all his effort
into healing. Warrior was
immensly powerful. Xt had learned this the hard way. But he was not infallible.
He had weaknesses. Xt thought this just before he faded into the healing trance
that would repair him as quickly as possible. Warrior was
getting really sick of this game. It was maddening, he had been all across the
surface of Luna and he still couldn't locate that thrice damned Alien. "
Enough is enough, you overgrown green bean, Show yourself." There was no
answer. Xt was too deep in the trance to hear. Warriors eyes began to glow
black and he began firing wildly around. Soon the
surface of the moon was covered with scorch marks. Warrior continued taking out
his frustration on the stone and dust. Inside his trance Xt, felt the impacts
and the heat. He began to gather as much energy as he could. Around his body
red lightning began to arc and crackle. His healing was complete. Warrior
continued to pound the surface until he noticed something very strange. The
surface was almost completely black. Except for one lone boulder. It was as
brilliant white as it had always been. Warrior
grinned. " So thats how you escaped me. Do you hear me Xt? I know your
hiding place now. Come out and face me." There was no response. Screaming
in rage and frustration Warrior fired his megasmasher at the rock. Xt felt the
massive energy wave approaching. Calling the Plasma-sword to him he activated
it. Quickly he pointed the glittering blade straight at the heart of the
oncoming beam. It struck the blade and was deflected. But Xt was still caught
in the nimbus of the powerful blast. Xt screamed
in rage and frustration as his armor began to smoke. He was so close. Xt shook
himself free of his doubt. Calling on his will once more he threw his energy
collectors wide open, absorbing as much of the energy as he could stand. Again
he screamed in agony as he felt the destrucive energy course through his
system. Warrior
heard Xt’s scream through his units and grinned in satisfaction. He doubted the
alien would survive, but it no longer mattered. He was just another insect in
his way. And insects would be crushed. Warrior
watched the blast end. He began to lift off the surface. When he was rooted to
the ground in shock. Xt was still standing, not only standing but glowing a
violent red from the energies he was stuggling to maintain control over. The
sword lay on the ground smoking. It was intact but no longer functional. Xt leaped
into the air. " I saved some of your energy for you. Here, have it
back." He spat out in a pain wracked voice. He then began to launch
plasmaspheres at a unbelievable rate. Faster than even warrior could launch
pressure cannons. Xt let out
a scream of pain as he began to slowly let loose the energy he had stored. He
felt a desire to rid himself of it all in one burst, but he fought back the
urge and continued with his new plan. Not wasting shots on Warriors shield he
concentrated the attack on the ground all around him. Warrior
gasped in suprise as the ground around him began to liquefy. He tried to take
to the sky but a stream of plasmaspheres pushed him under the surface of the
molten rock. He felt the intense heat even through his shield. His armor was
searing. It began to glow from the tremendous heat. Panicing
Warrior activated his blast field. He teleported to the surface. His armor
glowed almost white hot. He could barley see through the waves of heat he was
giving off. His anger flared into all consuming fire. Even hotter than his
body. He would allow himself to cool slowly in the frigid embrace of space, and
then he would rip that damn alien to pieces. Xt sensed
Warriors disappearance and portaled to his new location already pumping the
rest of his stored energy into his shield. Appearing right behind Warrior he
slammed his shield into that of the dazed and still glowing guyver. There was
an intense flash of light as both shields shorted out. Warrior
screamed as the full intense biting cold of space assailed him. His control
medal began to vibrate strangely. He felt his vision dimming ,his power fading.
Struggling to his feet he stared savagely at Xt. " You will Die for
that." He lunged at the stationary target, only to find that the target
was no longer there. He turned just in time to watch the graceful cut of the
Plasmablade as it slashed into his left bicep. He screamed
in pain as the blade sliced through him. He leaped away from Xt, losing his
balance and falling to the ground. Greg shook his head. He had never lost his
balance before, his balance had always been perfect. He look at the stump of
his arm. It was healing but way to slowly. What had that alien done to him. Xt notice
Warrior’s ungainly fall. " Get up. What’s the matter? Where is your power?
This little ALIEN taking to much out of you...... WARRIOR?" Again he
uttered the last word in a scornful tone. Again Greg leaped at him only to
receive a perfectly executed counter flip that drove him head first through the
side of a crater. It Stunned him, his head ringing. When his
vision cleared he saw Xt’s foot hurtling at his head. Acting without thought he
grabbed the foot and slung Xt aroung flinging him into the ground. Warrior saw
to his dismay that Xt flew only a couple dozen feet away. And so
slowly he had more than enough time to regain his balance and land lightly. Xt
fired a headbeam at Warrior. Greg tried to bring his shield up, but it didn’t
respond. The beam punched through his side as he tried to dodge. Falling to
the ground he clutched at his damaged ribs. Trying to reason out what had
happened. Was he permenantly damaged? Or could he recover? One thing was for
sure. The Alien was making this very difficult. He regained his feet as Xt
began firing a barrage of laser shots at him. He leaped to the side and started
running a large Arc around Xt as fast as he could. He dodged
most of the shots and was only grazed by the others. Powering a pressure
cannon, frowning at how long it took he closed with xt and launched it a near
point blank range. Xt was able to move enough of target that it slammed into
his shoulder instead of his chest. His
shoulder was ripped open by the shot and quickly sealed itself. " What is
wrong with you? That should have taken my arm off." He leaped to his feet
and advanced with drawn plasmablades. Warrior lengthened his own blades and the
duel began. Warrior was slowly being forced back. He could barely keep up with
Xt’s slashes and parries. All at once
Xt weaved in an odd way and Warrior felt three blows land almost all at once on
his gut, chest and head. His vison blurred and when he regained the present Xt
was standing over him. His plasmablade under Warrior’s chin. " Do
you surrender?" Xt asked in a quiet voice. Warrior snorted. " Never,
Kill me if you think your strong enough." Xt stared at him silently.
" We made an agreement, this fight is not to the death. I claim the
victory. I see no need for you to die." Retracting his blades he turned
his back on the motionless Warrior and began walking away. Warrior
slowly gained his feet. Xt had him dead to rights, he truly could have killed
him. But he didn’t. Greg felt the armor grow warm and looked down. His arm had
almost finished healing now. He felt his ribs, they had also healed. His
regeneration was starting to speed back up. He felt the power of the Warrior
returning to him. He smiled, that Alien had suprised him, but no more. He would
not allow another being besides himself with such power to exist. " Oh,
Xt!" He sent in a singsong voice. The alien turned just as the pressure
cannon slammed into his already wounded shoulder. The blast was much more
powerful this time. It took Xt’s arm completely off. " Ouch, thats gotta
hurt. What’s wrong? Suprised to find out you don’t have as much power as you
thought you did?" Xt leaped
back. But Warrior went to his top speed. The already damaged alien guyver could
not keep up with him. He proceded to start taking Xt apart piece by piece.
First to go was his sensory spike, then a shallow slash down his face rendered
one of his eyes useless. Next a cut across his chest destroyed the
Plasmasmasher cells. A laser punched through his waist plasma-orb. A solid blow
carefully aimed destroyed his head beam without touching the C-Medal. Warrior
continued his assault until Xt had been stripped of all his weapons, and was
reduced to a smoking heap of charred bio-material. Xt managed to fling himself
away from the enraged Warrior. He was dead. Even he knew it. "NO!" Xt
screamed activating a portal. He staggered through it and collapsed against a
rock on the otherside. Warrior
smiled, this was it. It was time for him to get rid of that insulting freak
once and for all. He teleported to Xt’s new position already opening his
megasmasher. " You should find this an honor Alien, I have never had an
opponent that was so close to my own level. I will always remember this battle.
But I can’t let a being like you run around loose. It’s unhealthy for me." Warrior
began to power up the megasmasher cell. He slowly allowed it to charge,
bringing it slowly to the most powerful single shot he had ever used. It was
powerful enough it might put a hole all the way through this rock he thought.
Xt looked up with his one good eye and saw the form his death would take. No! He
refused to accept this. This was not the way he would die. He screamed a final
battle cry as he staggered to his feet defiant of the massive amount of power
being brought to bear against him. Warrior saw
Xt’s final stand and found that he really would remember this battle always. He
closed his eyes as he released the megasmasher. Listened to its hum as it left
his chestplate. Thought it a fitting eulogy for a guyver, and a kindred spirit.
Almost he wished he hadn’t destroyed the Alien. Time slowed
down for Xt as the blast approached, it was blindingly bright, he almost
couldn’t look at it. But he forced himself to watch. He wouldn’t turn and hide
from his death, he would face it standing tall. He saw faces of all the people
he had met here. Ira, Greg, Josh, Jarrod, Albass, They all flashed before his
eyes. The last one and the one that lasted the longest was a vision of Jessica. He again
screamed in defiance and summoning the last of his strength he created the
largest portal he had ever used. He opened it right in front of him and crouched
behind this improvised shield. The megasmasher was to large even for a portal
of this size. It hit the portal and as it enetered the portal it also struck to
ground to both sides. The portal was not a shield so much as an umbrella and it
began to spark and vibrate. The megasmasher was about to punch through it when
Xt forced the portal by sheer will to remain open. Warrior
heard the blast hit and knew without looking that the Alien was dead. He
couldn’t have dodged and he couldn’t have withstood the blast. Sighing he
opened his eyes and looked down.....and again was stunned to imobility. There
stood Xt, around him was aperfect circle of untouched soil, and around that was
a massive fissure that stretched down beyond the limits of sight. Warrior let
out a scream of disbelief and rage as he again began to charge the megasmasher.
" How, How did he survive!" Greg thought to himself. Xt gestured over
his head. Warrior look up just in time to see a portal of amazing size open
right over his head. He had just enough time for the reality to dawn on him
before his own megasmasher volley slammed into him. He tried to
raise his shield, but it couldn’t come to full power before it was nullified by
the massive energy raining down on it. His armor was being stripped away. He
brought both arms up covering his face, protecting his C-Medal, trying to
weather the onslaught. Xt watched
Warrior be caught in his own beam of destruction. He dropped to his knees as
the powerdrain hit him. he lay back against the rock once again. He saw the
pulse end and noticed a blackened form on the ground no more than a few feet
away. As he watched it began to grow. Regenerating itself to it’s former glory. Xt sighed
and closed his eyes. He was out of energy, unable to offer anymore resistance.
He drifted into his healing trance. Hopefully warrior would make the end quick.
But if not, in the trance Xt could feel no discomfort. Warrior’s
control medal began to glow. the newly regenerated Guyver got to it’s feet.
Greg was still out, but the control medal was in self-defense mode. It scanned
the area, located the form of it’s enemy and walked over too it. It made ready
to destroy the blackened form it found, but it suddenly stopped as its friend
or foe unit came online. The host had been engaged in battle with this unit,
but it saw the unit as an ally, a friend. The unit could not destroy it. It was
in violation of its FoF system, yet it was obviously a danger to the host so it
couldn’t be allowed to live. The unit
froze in this paradox, unable to resolve the host mixed feelings into a clear
path of action. It resumed it’s passive stance and resolved to await further
instruction upon the host’s awakening. Greg slowly regained the present and as
his vision cleared he found himself towering over the partially healed form of
Xt. Running
back through the last few hours Warrior came to know what had prevented his
armor from destroying the obvious threat. It was his own mixed feelings about
the Alien. He himself didn’t know what he truly wanted. No, he wouldn’t
kill Xt like he had planned in his anger to do. He would wait until he knew for
a fact that the Alien was a threat. He was a powerful foe, and would be a great
asset in th upcoming battle. " I do
regret my earlier actions Xt. We did agree that there was to be no killing, you
were prepared to uphold that promise. In my anger I thought of nothing but your
death. I will not kill you now, I will wait and see what the future
holds." He spoke these words softly to the still unconscious form of Xt. Warrior
reached down and picked up the torso of Xt, which was about all that remained.
He then teleported them both back to Cerberus Island where this all began.
Laying Xt down he added his own Regeneration powers to Xt’s. A minute later
Xt’s body was restored. Greg than fired his head beam on low into the trunk of
a nearby palm tree before he floated into the air and teleported away from the
island. Xt came awake slowly. He felt strange. His eyes registered bright
light, his skin felt warmth, his ears heard the lapping of water, he saw a
gently swaying palm above him. Was this the Afterlife? Struggling to his feet
he found himself on the beach of Cerberus Island. He wondered why he was not
dead. Looking
around him he noticed the marks Warrior had carved into the Palm trunk. And
understood. There on the trunk were the words < The
End Has Not Yet Been Written > |
